Hart voor Kinderen sponsors a family in Kayamandi. The house has got the nice name 'Zanovuyo'. This means 'bringer of love'. Nomilaphi is the foster mother of this family and she does everything she can to ensure that the children flourish again.
Kayamandi is a slum in Stellenbosch and was created during apartheid. Many black people working on a farm or in the wine trade settled here. The majority of the population speaks Xhosa and is exposed to many difficulties. For example, there is a high number of HIV infections, even three times as much as in the local area! A high use of alcohol and drugs is also the order of the day and many parents are alone in education.
Erna Neuteboom: "How wonderful is it to see with your own eyes how these abandoned and vulnerable children live in this now nicely refurbished house. A house full of joy with crawling, running, smiling and playing children. Amazing! Moving when you see these - yet traumatized - children playing together. "
In the video below the social workers in Stellenbosch tell you what your donation means for this house!
