Heart for Children supports 48 children in 4 houses. In addition to accommodation, Heart for Children also offers clothing, education, nutrition and medical care. In Haiti it is currently not possible to practically implement our familcare model (a mother (aunt) with six children, as in South Africa). The need is great and there is a shortage of everything. We want to give as many children in Haiti a chance of living and a better future. To make this help feasible, a 'family' consists of 12 children together with two aunts (mothers) and an assistant aunt. And because of the culture, the boys live separately from the girls.
From Miami in Florida it is only one and a half hour flight to Haiti. The difference between these 2 worlds is incredible. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. The country is politically unstable and the country suffers a lot from natural disasters. Haiti has a high infant mortality rate and illiteracy rate. AIDS is also widespread.
After the earthquake of January 12, 2010 many children became orphaned and / or homeless. Heart for Children was able to offer emergency aid and continued support for 48 children.
On-going support is as necessary as ever.
The emergency aid that was offered to Haiti is of vital importance. But even after providing the most essential emergency aid, there is a great need for support.
That is why we cannot and should not forget Haiti if the first effects of the feeling of dismay and television actions have disappeared. Thousands of children in Haiti have become homeless and many of them must also miss their parents.
